Townsville Tandems was established in May 2014, and hopes to start providing regular riding opportunities for people with a disability in June 2014.
The launch campaign for Townsville Tandems has 3 phases:
1. Expressions of Interest
The plan to establish a tandem cycling club in Townsville is a new idea. To start with, we need to gather together as many people as we can who are keen and interested in being part of such a club. (If this is you, head along to the Get Involved page and sign up!)
Provided that there is enough interest in the club for it to be viable, we will move on to Phase Two.
At the moment, Townsville Tandems only has one tandem bike. If we want to be able to provide regular riding opportunities to a large group of people with disabilities, it’s pretty obvious that one bike isn't going to cut it.
Phase Two will involve seeking grants and sponsorship from local businesses and the public to help with the purchase of new tandem bikes. The number of bikes to be purchased will depend on the level of interest in the club, but we are aiming for at least four.
If you are willing and able to support Townsville Tandems through personal or corporate sponsorship, we'd love to hear from you. You can fill out the contact form on our Sponsorship page.
3. Organised Rides
Once we've got enough money to get some bikes, it’s time to go riding!
Townsville Tandems hopes to be able to provide lots of opportunities for riding. While these will be predominantly weekend rides, the bikes will be made available at any time that a Captain and Stoker are available to ride together.
